Barricaded Man Taken Into Custody

A Connecticut State Police tactical vehicle is parked in front of the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department, which served as a staging area Thursday for police during a standoff on Cowles Rd.

WOODBURY – A man who barricaded himself in a house on Cowles Rd. for several hours was taken into custody after he exited the house through a second story window.

Matthew Macary, 33, was taken into custody at the scene at about 8 p.m. Thursday and transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital for further evaluation.

State Police is applying or an arrest warrant to charge Macary with disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer. He is currently at Saint Mary’s for medical treatment from jumping out the second-story window and for a mental health evaluation.

Earlier in the day on Thursday, the Woodbury Resident Trooper’s Office and Troop L responded to the residential address for a disturbance. Upon arrival the subject barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to come out.

The subject was confined to the residence and State Police said there was no threat the public. The Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit was on scene working to bring a peaceful resolution to the incident.
