AAW Convivial Night of the Arts
March 13 @ 7:00 pm
A convivial night of the arts is open to the public on Wednesday, March 13th, at 7pm at the Arts Alliance of Woodbury’s Quarterly Meet & Greet at the Woodbury Park and Recreation Building.
Wine, refreshments, music, art and spoken word will take place in what will be a one night ambience makeover of the Park & Rec House. All are welcome to attend. The event is free to AAW members; non-members are welcome for a $5.00 contribution, which can be put toward membership that very evening.
After convivial mingling and refreshments, the evening’s emcee, AAW President David Bibbey, will introduce the talents of three of our members, who will be on hand to display and discuss their work:
Marc Russell, a Connecticut artist whose work involves fine art, advertising, commercial, event and portrait photography is also a photography educator and sculptor. Marc completed B.A and M.F.A. degrees in photography and sculpture from Brooklyn College. He also studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Cooper Union, the Art Students League, and Pratt Institute in Italy.
Currently teaching black and white photography and advanced photo techniques at Rockland Community College, Marc will focus on his sculpture and have on hand a few works in bronze and hammered lead along with materials to briefly demonstrate the “lost wax” process of bronze casting and finishing.
Linda Leidel, a Woodbury-based artist and painter studied art education, art history and studio art at Elmira College, New York and received her Masters in Art Education at Southern Connecticut State University. She taught art in the New Fairfield public school system.
Linda will talk about her work in portraits from life in oil. Linda has concentrated on portraiture for most of her own work and she participates in a weekly life-drawing series with a group of oil portraiture artists. Linda says, “My portraits are painted from life and I try to capture the essence of the person.”
And last but not least, David Bibbey, is the Emmy Award winning Executive Producer of CONNECTICUT MEANS BUSINESS – producers of corporate video, social media content and a growing expertise video library series for Connecticut’s business community. Recently appointed as Woodbury’s Poet Laureate, David will perform one of his new poems, ‘They Say’, an intriguing dive into the meaning of life given the plethora of both good and unsolicited advice surrounding us all.
AAW’s quarterly “meet and greets” feature food, beverages, scintillating company, and the talents of our people of the arts, every March, June, September, and December, at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month. Past venues include the Good News Restaurant and Bar, the Glebe House, Flanders Nature Center, Clapp & Tuttle, The Jewelry Café, and the beautiful homes and studios of AAW members.
Created by individuals, the Arts Alliance of Woodbury is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to fostering the arts in Woodbury and surrounding towns.
