Understanding the Impact of Technology on Teen Mental Health

November 8 @ 7:00 pm

If you are looking for ways to help your child bolster their social skills, join Jessica Champagne, LCSW at the Woodbury Public Library for a workshop to learn more about the effects of technology on communication skills, and how to support your teen in developing positive relationships.

This workshop will review current research on the topic, provide strategies for parents to discuss with their teens about healthy technology use, and have a question and answers segment. Additional community resources and services will be discussed as well for parents who are interested in ongoing support for their teen.

As more teens grow in an age of constant technology, the intersection between anxiety or depressive symptoms and difficulties managing real-life social situations has become more apparent. Translating social interactions from the electronic-realm to in-person skills is becoming increasingly challenging for many teens, leaving them lacking in the essential communication skills needed for healthy development.

For caretakers who were raised in a different time, with much less electronic communication and connectedness, supporting your teen through this new social scene is uncharted territory.

Jessica Champagne is a licensed clinical social worker who has extensive experience working with children and their families, specializing in helping families in developing positive communication skills, and assisting teens in finding ways to manage their mental health to live the full lives that they deserve.
