WOODBURY – Dr. Anna Cutaia-Leonard kissed a pig today. But why was the Region 14 Superintendent in a pig pen at Nonnewaug High School… and why did she wear heels instead of boots?
Well, Just Woodbury didn’t ask Cutaia-Leonard about her choice of footwear, be we did find out why she kissed a pig.
It was because students at Mitchell Elementary School and Bethlehem Elementary School collectively read for more than 500 minutes each over their summer break. Cutaia-Leonard makes an annual wager that if the kids can beat their collective goal, she would kiss a pig.
“The boys and girls, all together, read 114,849 minutes, which is fantastic,” Cutaia-Leonard told Just Woodbury after she puckered up and planted one right on the snout of Betty, who was a very good sport herself.
This is the third consecutive year that Cutaia-Leonard lost the wager to the kids.
“I think it’s a sign that the kids love to read,” Cutaia-Leonard. “And see me kiss a pig.”
And here’s Dr. Anna’s post-kiss reaction…

The Kiss Heard Around Region 14 was also seen live by all the students at Mitchell and Bethlehem elementary schools on Sept. 26. The kiss was live-streamed back to the school by Nonnewaug faculty members.
