Hi, I am new in town, and so is my community news website.
My name is Tim Parry, and I am the publisher and editor of Just Woodbury. Thanks for letting me into your living room, whether its by desktop, laptop, iPad or phone. Although the First Amendment gives anyone with access to the internet the right to freedom of speech, it is a privilege to bring Just Woodbury to the community.
My goal is for Just Woodbury to bring quality community news to the people of Woodbury. What you see on the site today is not representative of that goal. Rather, it’s a rush job because I placed an ad in the Playbill for St. Theresa of Avila’s musical (which runs tonight through Sunday), and I didn’t want to have the link point to a 404 error page.
How’s that for honesty?
But back to the site. There are a lot of good stories in Woodbury that go untold. That’s where Just Woodbury comes in. Through writing, video, and social media, Just Woodbury will provide the independent online journalistic voice the community does not truly have.
Yes, regional daily and weekly newspapers are doing a good job covering the news of the day. But they simply do not have the time to bring you the stories of the people, civic groups, clubs, and sports teams that help drive community spirit. They deserve to have their stories told, and their stories deserve an audience.
Like I said, I’m new in town. My family and I came here in August 2015, just in time for my son, William, to start Kindergarten at Mitchell Elementary School. I’d thought about starting a “hyper local” site when we got here, but there just wasn’t enough time in the day to make it happen. Once I was “downsized” from my day job in November 2016 as an editor of a trade publication, the gears began spinning. And in April, I decided the time was right to get Just Woodbury started.
I have a passion for community news, and I love to build online communities of like-minded people. This is something I had success with as a trade journalist, but wasn’t even an option back in my daily and weekly newspaper experience.
Please, I would love your feedback and your story ideas. I am a one-man team, but I cannot be an audience of one. No community news website can be a success without input from its audience.
You’ve probably seen the word “BETA” in the Just Woodbury logo. That’s up there to let you know this is not yet a complete body of work. My hope is that by September 1, Just Woodbury will be fully functional, and that I will be able to deliver a slew of content on a regular basis.
Thank you again for your time and patience.
