WOODBURY – All four incumbents running for their Region 14 Board of Education seats were re-elected on Thursday.
Woodbury residents John Chapman and Maryanne Van Aken and Bethlehem residents Michael Devine and Pamela Zmek were chosen to represent their respective towns on the Region 14 board through June 30, 2020.
Chapman received 536 votes and Van Aken 526 votes to keep their seats. Woodbury challenger Ernest Werner received 252 votes. Zmek had 471 votes and Devine 459 votes to keep their seats. Bethlehem challenger Anthony Barbino gained 260 votes.
Van Aken is currently the Vice Chairman of the Board of Education, and will be serving her third term.
Chapman, who will also serve his third term, is chairman of the Building Committee. That committee oversees the renovation of Nonnewaug High School. Chapman is also the chair of the Bylaws, Policy and Ethics Committee.
Zmeek was first elected to the Board of Education in 2010, and is chair of the Public and Community Relations Committee.
Devine is chair of the Negotiations and Pension Committee. This is his second term on the Region 14 board.
