WOODBURY – Zach Mihaly has been hired as the head coach of the Nonnewaug High School football team, according to a post on the Nonnewaug Chiefs Football Team Facebook page.

Mihaly comes to Nonnewaug from Post University, where he served this past season as the defensive line and strength and conditioning coach of the Sprint Football team. He has also been an assistant coach at Seymour and Oxford high schools.

Mihaly played scholastically at Seymour, and went on to play college ball at Nichols College.

Mihaly takes over for John Oko, and becomes the second head football coach in Nonnewaug’s brief history. Oko resigned in the spring, and his job was posted in May.

Football will not be the only team with a new head coach this season: The Republican-American reported that former Wilby star and girls basketball coach DeVonne Parker will take over the Chiefs’ boys basketball team.

Parker replaces Tim Drakeley, who resigned in the spring after 23 years as head coach.
