Nonnewaug Volleyball Facing Defending Champs in Quarterfinals

WOODBURY – The Nonnewaug volleyball team had advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class M tournament, and will face the defending champion, Seymour, tonight.

Third-seeded Seymour was 16-2 this season, had a first-round bye, and beat Plainfield 3-0 to get to the quarterfinals.

The sixth-seeded Chiefs finished the regular season with a 14-3 record, and were the co-champions of the Berkshire League. Nonnewaug defeated Ellington and Sheehan 3-0 in its first two CIAC tournament games.

Nonnewaug swept Ellington in its opening round match Monday 25-12, 25-10, 25-17.


Alexis Delia had 6 kills, 4 aces, 1 block, and 2 digs; Madison Conroy had 9 kills, 2 aces, and 6 digs; and Skylar Delp had 6 aces, 18 assists, and 3 digs.

Nonnewaug faced a tough challenge from 22nd-seed Sheehan, but hung on for a 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 win on Wednesday.

Delp had 32 assists, 1 ace, and 13 digs; Conroy had 12 kills, 7 digs, and 1 ace; and Alexa Spain had 10 kills.
