Nonnewaug Wrestler Finishes 2nd at State Open

NEW HAVEN – Nonnewaug junior wrestler Jack Cronin finished second in the CIAC State Open on Saturday and qualified for the upcoming New England Championship at 182 lbs.

Cronin, who won the CIAC Class S tournament last week, was the 4th seed at the State Open, and was pinned by 2nd-seeded Carson Licastri of Joel Barlow in the championship match.

After a first-round bye, Cronin pinned Leonardo Amaro Jr. of Bacon Academy, Malik Goethe of Brien McMahon, and Joseph Palmeri of Trumbull to reach the championship match.

The New England Championships are March 1 and 2 in Providence, RI.
