Quassapaug Sailing Center Offering 4 Summer Camp Programs

MIDDLEBURY – Come discover one of Connecticut’s pristine small lakes with Quassapaug Sailing Center’s, Sailing, Kayaking and Nature Exploration Camp.  Open House is Sat. June 8, 2019 from 10 a.m. – noon.

We have four camp programs available, Sail and Trails, Optimist Dinghy Sailing, 420 Dinghy Sailing and a Leadership Training Program.

The staff, under the direction of certified sailing instructor and educator Peter Gunn, consists of certified sailing instructors, lifeguards, naturalists and counselors all CPR certified.   Quassapaug Sailing Center’s mission and core principle is to offer hands-on discovery, adventure, skill building and self – directed experiential learning while learning to work as a team to create the ultimate summer experience for your child ages 9 through 18.

Back by popular demand is our “Sails and Trails” camp.  This program offers a unique combination of water exploration and nature activities.   Available in two week sessions for children ages 9-12, & 12-18, full day only.  Campers will experience a half day on the water either sailing or kayaking and the other half of the day will be exploring, observing and collecting the wonders of nature.

The Optimist Dinghy sailing program, held in two week camp sessions for ages 9-12, is an introduction to basic safety, seamanship and boat handling. Full and half day option available

The 420 Dinghy sailing program, are two-week camp sessions for ages 12-18 is designed to introduce sailors to a larger class of boat often used by high school and college sailing teams. Full and half day option available.

The Leadership Training program designed for the older camper is available all summer long.  These campers will make use of all of our vessels discovering unique wetland life.  They will learn survival skills, compass usage and orienteering.

In addition all of our campers and their families are invited to attend a family day August 10.  This is a chance for all participants to show off their newly learned skills to their families.

Summer camp programs begin June 24 and run through August 16. Camp hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.   This year, an extended hour, 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. will be available before and after camp.  Qualify for a discount by registering by May 31.

In addition, QSC will continue to offer Adult Sailing Lessons on Thursday evening and Saturday morning by appointment.

The Sailing Center will be hosting Open House on Saturday June 8 10am-2pm rain or shine.  This is an opportunity to learn more about the programs.  The center is located at 30 West Lake Road Middlebury, CT.
