The programs run throughout the summer at the Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary, 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury. Morning and afternoon programs can be combined to provide a full-day, outdoor experience. There is an “all day” discount, and available extended afternoon as well as morning care. Programs are led by Flanders’ staff of experienced educators and naturalists on Flanders’ 200-acre campus of forest, field, farm and pond.

Summer series include: Little Explorers for ages 3 to 5 — children get their first introduction to nature and the environment, through hands-on activities, art projects, nature walks, stories, songs and outdoor play.

There are several programs to choose from for kids entering grades 1-5 including Outdoor Adventures — children build an appreciation for the environment through outdoor projects and games, hiking, animal identification, gardening and geology;  Nature, Art and Imagination  — children will explore and create works of art inspired by wildlife and habitats in a range of artistic mediums, such as pen and ink, charcoal, watercolors, acrylic paints, papermaking and nature prints to express their own individual artistic ideas as they connect to nature.;  Kids In The Kitchen  — Young Chefs will discover local farm products and  “green living” techniques.  They will while learning to cook and the importance of healthy meals while making creative culinary creations.  Farming Fun held at the North Barn— children explore farm, field and pond environments, work closely with live farm animals and do real farm “chores” each day; A special offering this year in that category is a “Veterinary Science” series where kids will have the chance to be hands on with the farm animals learning what it takes to keep animals healthy.

Earth Explorers – Flanders trails, ponds, wetlands and fields become a living laboratory for kids ages 10-13 to have the hands-on experience of exploring , connecting to and enjoying nature, helping to encourage them to become tomorrow’s earth stewards.
