Smoke Alarm Set Off at Boyd Building

WOODBURY – The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a smoke detector being activated at the Boyd Building at about 4:30 a.m. today.

The Boyd Building houses Woodbury’s Town Clerk and Tax Collector’s offices, among other town departments.

The fire department was on the scene until about 5:30 a.m., and the cause of the smoke was unknown at that time.

Reached by text, First Selectman Bill Butterly said the heavy smoke came from a seized up motor and heating system.

“When we got there at 4 o’clock, there was a plastic smell in the building, but it seems to be OK now,” Butterly texted.

Butterly said he believes town employees will be able to work in the Boyd Building today. Provisions will be made in the gallery should town employees need to sit somewhere else. A new heating motor has been ordered and is being delivered to the building today.
