Charles McNair, M.D. will be discussing his new book “Soldiers of Foreign War,” which is a fictional account set seven years into the Vietnam War, on Sunday, October 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodbury Public Library.
His book details the story of the men and women who worked at the 83rd surgical hospital to save the American teenagers fighting in this now inconvenient war. He tells the story of the lives of both American and Vietnamese soldiers and civilians, whose lives were changed by this war.
McNair had enlisted in the war himself in September of 1968 and actual served as a field medic and operating technician from June of 1969 to June of 1970. He was stationed in the Tay Ninh province in South Vietnam in the 45th Surgical Hospital and was tasked with the mission of receiving those wounded directly from the battlefield and stabilizing their wounds through surgery. The site was constantly filled with combat.
McNair was eventually discharged in 1971 where he then went to medical school in California. From July of 1981 until his retirement in December of 2016 he has practiced medicine in Woodbury.
