MANCHESTER – For the first time in seven years, Nonnewaug is the CIAC Class M Girls Cross Country Champion.
Nonnewaug placed its five runners in the Top 33 to score 94 points, and outdistanced second-place Berlin (129) by 35 points.
Points are determined by the runners’ place in the 20-team race. The team with the lowest score wins.
Helene Berger (20:19) was fifth overall. Jennie Schwarz (21:15) was 15th, and beat teammate Carly Andrew by less than a second.
Jacquelin Berger 22:33 finished 25th, and Maddie Woodward (22:44) rounded out the scoring with a 33rd-place finish.
Kylie Fitzgerald ran a 22:58 and Brooke Andrew ran a 25:33.
Nonnewaug will compete for the State Open title on Friday at Wickham Park.
