Woodbury Firefighters Get Recertified

WOODBURY – The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department conducted a recertification program for 35 firefighters and a new recruit on Sunday Dec 2.

“Recert Sunday” is a mandatory, twice-yearly exercise including health checks, hazardous material refresher training, fire-fighting, rescue operations, pager calibration, and even gun-safety – what and how to handle a rescue attempt when the subject has a firearm.

Among the lectures and briefing presentations, veteran department firefighter Glen Dains discussed traffic safety at motor vehicle accidents, noting that most firefighter deaths are suffered when hit by a car or truck.

Fireman and Prof. Pano Koukopolous also updated fireman on OHSA regulations. Fire Chief Janet Morgan also welcomed new recruit Jonathan Salamone, a landscaper originally from Southbury and now resident in Woodbury.
