WOODBURY – Five thousand yellow rubber ducks are training for the Woodbury Lions Club’s 8th Annual Duck Race Raffle taking place at Noon on September 9 from Jack’s Bridge Road through Three Rivers Park in Woodbury.
For those who do not know what a Duck Race Raffle is, each ticket sold corresponds to the number written a small yellow rubber duck. The day of the race, the Lions mix the ducks together and dump them into the river at Jack’s Bridge. The first ducks to cross the finish line are the winners.
This year, the Woodbury Lions have prizes for the first eleven ducks that make it all the way down the river and into the winner’s circle.
“All our prizes are donated, which means that almost all the money that we raise goes directly to sight-and-hearing related causes,” explained Sight and Hearing Chair William Barthelmess.
This year, the prizes are $1000 for first place, donated by Joyce Van Lines; $500 for second place, donated by Mattatuck Industrial Scrap Metal; third prize is $300, donated by The Garden; and fourth prize is $300 donated by Newtown Savings Bank. Fifth through Ninth Place prizes are $200 gift certificates donated by Carlito’s Restaurant, San Remo Restaurant, Murray Brothers Garage, New Morning and John’s Café. The Tenth and Eleventh prizes are $100 gift certificates donated by Woodbury Farm Market and Market Place.
Tickets are available, $5 each, or $50 for a book of ten, from any Woodbury Lion and members of Lions Clubs in many surrounding towns. There are also several Woodbury businesses who are selling tickets, including Dietrich’s Garden Center, Woodbury Pizza, Woodbury Drug Company, Canfield Corner Pharmacy, Discount Liquors of Woodbury, San Remo, Carlito’s, Murray Brother’s Garage, C.L. Adams, and Papa’s Deli. You can find them by the Duck Race signs outside their shops.
