Woodbury VFD Drills with Pumps and the Artificial Pond

WOODBURY – The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department ran its annual pump drill Saturday March 30 at the town’s fire department headquarters.

Deputy Chief William Garms based the exercise on use of a portable pond as a central resupply base with up to 3,000 gallons of water in the absence of a nearby source. When not in use, the pond is folded to the side of Tanker 9, based at the WVFD’s Hotchkissville Company.

With 2,500 gallons already on board, Tanker 9 is usually assigned to roll when there is a mutual assistance call from a nearby fire department and is part of the regional tanker task force.

“We practice, practice, practice so there’s no hesitation or sudden technical problems in an emergency,” Garms said.
